The event was started in 1978 and has been a major influence in the revival of, and research into, Cornish dance and music. Until 2014, it was held in Perranporth and since then it has been based in Newquay. The festival has a wide programme, including workshops, talks, ceilidh (dance sessions), street demonstrations of dance and music, and much more.
