The September Festival was started in 1978 and has featured many famous performers over the years. Nearly every part of the town is used as a performance venue, from streets to the world-famous Tate St Ives gallery.
Over the last 100 years, St Ives has become famous for art, thanks to the large number of artists that have lived in the town. Many of these artists were inspired by its beautiful surroundings, the shape of the local rocks and cliffs and the special quality of light in St Ives. The festival builds on this heritage and is now popular with local people and visitors travelling from all over the world.
