The event is second only in size to Helston’s Flora Day. The Fair includes a horticultural exhibition, a family fun dog and pet show, a beer festival, Cornish wrestling competitions and a carnival parade.

Attached to the event is the Plum Fair, an amusement fair with fairground rides and other attractions. At one point, the Plum Fair existed to sell Kea plums. These plums, named after the village of Kea, were only found near the River Fal. There are two kinds of Kea plum – red and black – with red plums fruiting earlier than black. The Plum Fair is one of many movable fairs that happen across Cornwall. These are often descended from older fairs, which were like large markets.
