Robert 'Bob' Fitzsimmons was born in Helston in 1863. He later became the first boxer to win three championships in three different weight divisions.
Did you know?
Before Sir Humphry Davy invented the miners’ safety lamp, many coal miners were killed in underground explosions caused by dangerous gases.
The underground workings at the Crowns mine near Botallack were a mile long, with one-third of the shafts and tunnels stretching under the seabed.
