According to Christian tradition, St Michael is the chief angel and the head of heaven’s army. It’s said that he is responsible for throwing the angel Lucifer (who became the Devil) out of heaven.

There are many places dedicated to St Michael in Cornwall, including Helston and, of course, St Michael’s Mount. The Mount is named after the saint because it was believed that local fishermen had a vision of St Michael on the top of the island.
