Lostwithiel

Every New Year’s Eve, the Cornish town of Lostwithiel holds a procession to celebrate the start of the New Year. As well as people, the procession includes many large puppets representing giants.

Musicians lead the parade, with the puppets being specially lit and joined by members of the public carrying illuminated lanterns.

There are lots of legends about giants in Cornwall, who were once considered to have built many of the natural landmarks here. Some of the most famous legends are about a man known as Jack the Giant Killer, who was supposed to have killed many of the fiercest Cornish giants.
