As part of the festival, competitions are held each year, often focusing on art or writing. The festival was originally named after Daphne du Maurier, one of Cornwall’s most famous writers, and is organised by the du Maurier Festival Society.
Daphne du Maurier was the author of famous books such as Frenchman’s Creek and Rebecca, and short stories such as ‘The Birds’, which became a film directed by the famous filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. Many of du Maurier’s stories are set in Cornwall.
